Fashion in film
It goes without saying that film and fashion have long gone hand in hand but this stylish festival gets two enormous ticks when it comes to curating, and celebrating some of the most avant garde and beautiful cinematic experiences ever created. In its 4th year, the 2013 Fashion in Film festival is dedicated to Marcel L’Herbier: Fabricating Dreams, which will feature a rare showcase of one of France’s most arguably overlooked Directors. Whilst I can’t confess to knowing a great deal about his work, his highly stylised (some, but not all silent) films include L’Argent, L’Inhumaine, and Le Vertige and regardless, I eagerly anticipate indulging in some wonderful fashion history.
The aim of the festival is to explore the relationship and conceptual role that fashion and costume has to play in the interpretation of culture in the medium of film. Running across the Southbank Centre, Barbican and BFI, Fashion in Fim is an exhibition, research and education project based at Central Saint Martins and also supported by London College of Fashion, both part of University of the Arts London.
Running from 10-19 May, you can find out more here.
